Colouring through a stencil with watercolour pencils - with Imagine Design Create & Tonic Studios

Hi there. I've taken a little time out today from a busy and hectic week preparing for a major project that is coming up soon.  I've had the new Tonic Nuvo watercolour pencils sitting on my desk for a week or two, so today I decided it was time to sit and relax and try them out by colouring through one of Imagine Design Create's stencils - the Ice-cream and Sprinkles 6x6 inch stencil.

Tonic Studio's have released two sets of watercolour pencils, Brilliantly Vibrant, and  Hair and Skin Tones. I have used both sets today to get the delicious looking ice-cream colours, and of course both sets of colours compliment each other beautifully - and hopefully I've shown today that the Hair & Skins tones can also be used for other things.

Colouring through the Ice cream & Sprinkle stencil is just another way in which you can use this craft room staple.  This particular stencil is perfect for this technique because there are good open areas within which you can apply the colour. For this typically summery image I wanted a soft blended look, and decided that the colours of pastes and mediums I had were a little to bright and bold.

The Tonic watercolour pencils are a joy to use, and I would highly recommend them, they lay down colour so easily and this allows you complete control over where colour is applied. When blended with a waterbrush, the already vibrant colours come to life and your image takes on he look of watercolour art very easily.

I wanted to keep the look of pencil strokes, so after the water had dried, I went back over with the dry pencil again to add the pencil strokes and also intensified the shading.

The background has been created with the Tonic Nuvo Aquaflow pens, another of my favourites as the moment....particularly for brush lettering (i hope to bring you some blogs on my progress with that soon). To add the sprinkles details I used the pink Glimmer paste, again from Tonic Nuvo (can you tell I'm a bit of a fan....lol!).

The simplicity of the card really lends itself to any number of quotes or sentiments to finish, and today I went with the Inspirational Quote stamps by Imagine Design Create, stamped with Black Shadow hybrid ink by Tonic.
