It’s Debbie again this week. I do hope you have had a wonderful crafty week and have had a chance to see Kerri-Anne and Claire’s wonderful new stamps and stencils online, in store or on Hochanda. The girls have really been working so hard to bring these gorgeous designs to us.
This week I have made an Aperture Card with the really pretty Stamp Set – Dragonfly Dreams. It really is one of my favourites that Imagine Create Design have made and a constant go to. I do hope you will enjoy this tutorial.
Aperture Die – I used a Tonic nesting die
2 x 8” x 8” Card Blanks (White)
Versafine Ink Pad – Smoky Gray
Wow Clear Embossing Ink Pad
Wow Embossing Powders
Stamping Platform / Acrylic Block
Glue – Dries Clear
Perga-Glitter – Hint of Blue
Spare stamping Card
Take one of your 8 x 8 card blanks and score both the front and back from top to bottom at the half way mark. It should be 4” but sometimes card manufacturers cut them slightly smaller or larger. Do not Fold
Unfold your card and place your die on the centre fold line. Your die should have little notches to help you get it in exactly the middle. Do use a die that allows a good 2” gap to each side. Cut your aperture on your cutting machine.
Now fold a mountain fold through the middle of your aperture and card. Set aside
Take your second 8 x 8 card blank and cover the centre two panels with IDC pink paper. I used the one that looks like veins on a wing or leaf. Then cover the outside two panels of the aperture card.
Using clear embossing ink and the star plus small solid dragonfly stamps, make a random pattern all over the pink paper. Heat emboss with Wow embossing power. Repeat this for the outside two panels of the second card.
Looking at the pattern on the photo, follow the placement of the small detailed dragonfly, and stamp with versafine into each corner around your aperture. Now stamp around these with more clear embossing ink and heat emboss again with Wow embossing powder.
Put card aside and stamp 2 large and 2 small detailed butterflies onto spare stamping card. We are now ready to colour in all our butterflies. I used a blending technique to get a lovely variation in the colour on the wings. When coloured blend with a small damp brush. Do not over wet your design.
I put a small amount of ultrafine glitter on the dragonfly wings that will be placed in the aperture. I used different designs e.g. Dots, lines etc. This really brings them out to the viewer of your card.
Fuzzy cut your dragonflies from the stamping card. You will need very small pieces of card for this next stage.
Take a piece of card approx. 1” long and ¼” wide. Fold a small piece in at each end. Attach one end to the centre of your dragonfly and the other to the centre of your back card blank. I used wet glue but red liner tape would work too. Vary the length of your card to make the dragonflies look like they are dancing with one another.
Now glue the front to the back of your card by the two outside flaps.
Your beautiful card is finished.
The dragonflies do close down to enable you to post your card.
I do hope you enjoyed this card this card this week. Wishing you a lovely day
